Singer-songwriter Paul Schalda, known for his work with The Sha La DasPaul & The Tall Trees, and Charles Bradley, will release his debut solo album, Lately, this Friday, November 7, 2025, via Skylark Soul Co.

With the soulful lead single “Anything For Your Love”, produced by eight-time GRAMMY Award nominee Adrian Quesada (Grupo Fantasma, Black Pumas), Schalda continues to showcase the emotional depth and timeless quality that have defined his career. The track follows the Quesada-produced standalone single “Joey” and the album’s stirring opener “Alarmist” as well as “Can You See Yourself With Me.”

“The goal was to mix the energy of my East Coast family with my new Texas family,” said Schalda, who moved from his native Staten Island to Dallas eight years ago. “It’s an ode to the human experience, of leaving all my roots behind and navigating new terrain.”

For Schalda, music runs deep. His father, a member of 1960s vocal group The Montereys, taught his sons Beach Boys and Beatles harmonies on long car rides. Paul began singing in a church choir before joining his older brother’s hardcore band at age 13. To this day, he performs in the family’s acclaimed doo-wop group, The Sha La Das. “I grew up doing it, it was always there, and I’ve always loved it,” Paul reflects.

Recorded live to tape at Niles City Sound after only a single day of rehearsal, Lately captures a raw, human immediacy. Co-produced by Schalda and guitarist/musical director Robert Ellis, the album features an impressive roster of collaborators including Adrian Quesada, drummer Rich Terrana, bassist Preet Patel (The Frightnrs), keyboardist Victor Axelrod (Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings), and Dallas musicians Kevin and Becki Howard.

A reluctant yet magnetic frontman, Schalda will support Lately with shows across Texas and both coasts — performing solo, as a duo, or with members of the Lately studio band. His sets often weave in songs from earlier projects and, when possible, appearances by his father.

“I’d like listeners to get a sense of hope for humanity,” Schalda said. “That moment when sonic vibration hits you and you uncontrollably get goosebumps. It’s rare. It’s real. I want that connection.”
